Katie attributes her high energy survivorship to her family’s support, her barn community’s support, and her daily interaction with horses. Because of her ability to continue competing while receiving chemotherapy treatment, the Medical University of South Carolina asked her to participate in an awareness campaign regarding clinical trials for hard to treat cancers.
In 2013, Katie joined the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill team to pursue treatment options due to the hospitals strong affiliation with genetic research in the treatment of cancer.

In 2012, Katie Maxwell began experiencing persistent abdominal pain and fatigue. At first she wasn’t too concerned. After all, as a highly competitive hunter jumper rider and trainer, she just thought it was a result of working hard to finish off the year of competitions....
Program to offer hereditary cancer screening for as low as $125
Got chemo side effects?.....
Dry, irritated scalp from hair loss; skin blistering; dry lips; scalding from diarrhea;
hemorrhoids; cracking skin (feet and hands); rash.
I think I have something that will help. Try BooBoo Salve. It worked for the founder of
TIG, Katie Maxwell!
Katie Maxwell is a dear friend of mine who has been dealing with the side effects of
many different chemotherapy treatments. I sent her some Boo Boo Salve when she
started frontline, and she has sworn by it ever since. She and many, many others have
found that it can help relieve chemoʼs side effects as well as other insults to the skin.
She uses it to soothe and condition her scalp, moisturize her face, to minimize and treat
blisters on her hands and feet and, yes, on that scalding that can occur from diarrhea. It
is a potent, hand crafted, healing formula containing only natural ingredients and no
chemical preservatives. Clean the skin, pat it dry and apply!
After my daughter had major abdominal surgery, I used Boo Boo Salve on her wounds.
She healed with minimal scarring. A chef friend wouldnʼt be without it in her kitchen, a
woodworker nephew keeps it in his shop for those little errors in judgement and a
summer camp director makes it available to his campers for bug bites, sunburn,
scratches and scrapes. Moms with babies use it for diaper rash. Another friend, who
shall remain nameless, swears by it for his hemorrhoids. Personally, I use it on scrapes
and nicks I get while gardening and at night as a moisturizer. BooBoo Salve takes the
insult out of injury putting your skin on the road to recovery!
